The B2B conference on eMobility

22–23 september 2021 / BERLIN

eMOBILITY 2025 – ON THE VERGE OF MASS ADOPTION

2025 will become a critical year for the Electric Vehicle Charging Industry. It will be the year when a middle-class electric vehicle will cost the same as its internal combustion engine pendant. A great accomplishment that will lift the entire industry to new heights of mass adoption, freeing itself from the shackles of subsidies and embracing healthy and dynamic growth. With this, we will reach an unprecedented state of EV-based mobility all over the world.

But to establish the 2025 vision of the EV Charging Market, the whole EV ecosystem must collaborate! The logic behind such a connected eMobility ecosystem is not only future-oriented but empowering: We must come together to place each step of the EV Charging process in the hands of the EV driver. Because ultimately, people will drive the change.

eMobility 2025 embodies the central theme of the ICNC21: It allows us to reveal what action is needed now to reach our goal of a mature EV Charging Market by 2025, a market on the verge of mass adoption.

CHANGE CATALYSTS

We have identified five change catalysts that will enable us, the EV Charging Industry, to deliver on this 2025 vision:

SMART ENERGY
CITIES AND MUNICIPALITIES
NEW MARKET ENTRANTS
THE DIGITAL CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
THE VALUE OF DATA
"Really good representation of the global charging market"
Simon Hou
CEO / XCHARGE
"Very special conference on the sector in Europe and globally"
Dominique Houde
PARTNER / Improved
"A great conference that brings a lot of relevant people together"
Lior Sethon
DEPUTY GENERAL MANAGER / MOBILEYE AND INTEL DEVISION

Smart Mobility - Smart Energy and EV

Smart mobility and digitization are changing our lives - and our mobility. Alternative drive systems are taking over the roads, cities are being redeveloped with new modes of transport or a multimodal mix, and intelligent systems are linking modes of transport with the infrastructure. In the future, mobility will contribute more than ever to improving quality of life, safety, and environmental and climate protection. The future of mobility remains exciting: Rapid technological progress is opening up entirely new possibilities for the future car. Thanks to automated driving, we can be chauffeured from door to door in self-driving vehicles. Traffic jams, accidents, and environmental damage could soon be a thing of the past.

Future Outlook - how does 2025+ look like

Why is 2025 such an important year in the eMobility world? Battery electric vehicles will remain money losers for the next several years

  • Purely battery electric vehicles will only achieve a market share of around three percent by 2025
  • New business models offer opportunities to gain a successful start in the electric era
  • The government must commit to massive investments for a “Germany 2025 program for electric-powered mobility

Data is the new oil - even if we don´t need oil anymore

Between ownership, transparency, and added value – Mobility Data as Currency.

Anonymity is an illusion! Future mobility without the use of personal data won’t work!

Companies already collect a lot of data these days, and they will be collecting even more in the future. Today and in the future, customers will no longer have full control of their data.

Challenges:

  • What level of transparency is wanted, and how can it be achieved?
  • How much is our data worth?
  • Which types of regulation do we have and which do we need?
  • To what extent will it bother users that they will have to give up their privacy?

In the year 2025, user data will be the foundation for nearly every mobility offering. Many users have no idea what data is being collected and utilized. They are happy to provide their data to get cheaper fares or to be able to make use of services customized to their specific needs. Digital assistants will be used in the future to control and manage personal data.

Mega Power Charging / is faster = better?

Electric car Charging as fast as gasoline is the aim?  Soon we will be able to recharge your electric vehicle as quickly and efficiently as a traditional gasoline fill-up.

  • What do we need to do to scale up technologies that work well in the lab for mass production?
  • Are we on the verge of a revolution?

Solid-state batteries could produce up to 45% more power than those using liquid electrolytes, while non-flammable, solid electrolytes mean the risk of fire threatened by current technology is eliminated. Expect to see these batteries first in upmarket and pricey long-range electric vehicles.

  • Are there new problems coming up because fest-chargers require much more energy from the grid and are very costly to install?
  • Will fast-charging technology be the key in future of EV charging since 100% of vehicle manufacturers are adopting fast charging?
  • Do we even need faster-charging concepts?

Customer Experience vs. Standardization – Are we in for a fight?

The industry is moving more and more towards automation of processes in terms of customer experience to realize scalability and thus implement the mass market. But does this make sense at all, or does the end consumer suffer from a non-customized customer experience? Should companies focus more on customers' individual demands or make scalability the focus, or does one not exclude the other?

Data acquisition

We record all important data for follow-up care within the framework of legal requirements (SARS-CoV-2 Infection Protection Ordinance and the resulting hygiene framework concept for events). Recordings will be automatically deleted for weeks after the ICNC21. All participants are known to us by name and your presence is recorded. You will need your name badge throughout your ICNC21 visit. The name badge will be scanned every time you enter or leave the EUREF-Campus to record check-in and out times. Our attendance documentation takes place on a self-sufficient secondary system and does not contain any personal data, it is anonymized. Only if there is a justified need and exclusively for Corona contact tracking, the data is supplemented with the legally required data from our ICNC21 ticketing system via a participant ID and transferred to the responsible health authority.

What measures are taken to minimize the risk of participation?

We take all measures necessary to ensure the greatest possible safety for our guests and employees. To this end, we are in direct contact with the relevant authorities, who provide us with advice. In addition to intensified hygiene measures (including increased cleaning intervals, area-wide disinfection facilities, close-meshed ventilation plan), general, as well as specific rules of conduct, apply. The latter includes a no-handshake policy and a general mask requirement. In addition, the greatest possible distances will be ensured on-site, for example in the seating of lecture rooms, in the planning of the exhibition area, and in the catering areas. In order to ensure the greatest possible spacing, both the number of participants and the number of exhibitors will be limited. Check-in for the event will be contactless.
